Sixth graders from game-based learning school Quest to Learn take risks in the process of designing a Rube Goldberg machine. Research has shown experiencing risk and failure enables more creativity, innovation, and engagement and teaches resilience and perseverance.
The school is designed to enable students to “take on” the identities and behaviors of explorers, mathematicians, historians, writers, and evolutionary biologists as they work through a dynamic, challenge-based curriculum with content-rich questing to learn at its core.
Quest to Learn in New York City is a collaboration between the Department of Education, New Visions for Public Schools, and the Institute of Play.
